IESE Global Venture Capital&Private Equity Country Attractiveness Index

According to IESE Global Venture Capital and Private Equity Country Attractiveness Index recently presented by IESE Business School in University of Navarra of Spain, ranked among universities in Europe in 2013, Korea has ranked 15th out of total surveyed 118 countries.

America was at the first place for five consecutive years since 2009 when this survey has started followed by Canada, England, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Germany etc. Korea has ranked 4th place among 20 Asian countries.

In detail, Korea has ranked 13th for dept of capital markets, 15th for economic activity, 9th for entrepreneurial culture and deal opportunities, 20th for tax system, 29th for human and social environment, and 31th for investor protection and entrepreneurial governance. Especially, it is necessary to put continuous efforts to reinforce, since Korea has been proved as vulnerable in the detailed domains related to investor protection and entrepreneurial governance, human and social environment, entrepreneurial culture and deal opportunities such as corporate governance(48th), quality of the legal system(39th), education and human capital(26th), rigidity of the labor market(39th), bribery and corruption(38th), ease of business start-up and operation(34th), simplicity of closure(13th), and innovation(18th) etc. Based on these detailed results, the researchers in KISTEP have classified Korea as a ‘developing country in founding’ with high dependence on the government’s policy support in the situation without solid competitiveness in general domain, along with Netherlands, France, Israel etc.
