The secret to produce Nobel laureate in global private corporate and foundation has been turn out to discover the talented, provide free and stable opportunity for exploration, and convergence of different fields of study.  

KISTEP has presented the latest Issue Paper which analyzes the status and reason for awarding Nobel prize of the researchers, negligible compared to overall winners, but continued to increase, who were in private corporate and supported from private foundation. This support on basic science from private sector is significant to prove the level of science and technology, and industrial technology of the country such as playing a role as an accelerator for innovation of country and leading the new related industry creation by securing basic technology which changes the paradigm of human life etc. 

According to the report, Nobel laureates from private companies are 25 persons so far. Among these, the most awarded (25 persons) were in physics which is likely applied to industries, and for the domain supported from private foundation, it was concentrated in medical physiology to improve the quality of human life.  

And there were 7 persons from Bell Labs in America, 5 persons from IBM and 2 persons from GE for private companies. The secret for them to produce the laureates has been turn out to be the corporate philosophy to discover and use the talented in the world, build the global research network, study integrally with participation of various domains, and regard the basic study as important etc.    

Even in Korea, the private foundations of conglomerate have started to award and support the excellent researcher, but most of support for basic study are led by the government.

The report proposes that various basic studies of government presented meantime should be activated and the strategy for awarding Nobel science prize should be more long-term and strategic. And it also mentions that ‘open innovation in workforce’ is necessary to integrate and spread the technology through influx of various foreign labor.
