Hold the 3rd KISTEP Future Forum

KISTEP has held the 3rd KISTEP Future Forum with the subject of ‘Future prospect and safety of Food’ at KOEX in Seoul, on November 6.
 
Starting from the opening address of Youngah Park, presiden of KISTEP and the welcoming address of Lee Gak-Beom, Director of Future Market Lab, this event has been proceeded with the order of presentations from 4 experts and panel discussion.
 
As the first presenter, Munjung Choi, Team Manager of Technology Estimation Team of KISTEP has pointed out the 5 trends for future technology related to production and consumption of food are functionality, safety, productivity, sustainability and convenience, and presented future technology related to this based on the result of science and technology forecasting in Korea and Japan with the subject of ‘Future food technology trend’.
 
Following this, Taeyeol Ha, Head of department of Metabolic Function Research Division in Korea Food Research Institute has explained that the gene is indispensable for future food through the presentation about ‘Omiz-based personalized health food’.
 
As the 3rd presenter, Youngmi Jang, Team Manager of New hazardous materials team of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation Center, said “If the average temperature of Korea rise 1 degree, Salmonella will increase 47.8%, Vibrio will increase 19.2% and Staphylococcus aureus will increase 5.1%” and “It is necessary to establish the measure for overall management of food safety by analyzing the potential factors for the occurrence and developing the monitoring·estimating model.”
 
Finally, Haeryong Song, Professor in journalism of Sungkyungwan University, has highlighted the importance of risk communication which share actively the opinions with experts, customers, government and media in emergency related to food safety in citing the example of food risk from Japan due to recent accidental nuclear radiation in Fukushima of Japan.
 
Byungho Son, Director in Future Strategy of KISTEP has hosted the expert panel discussion with participation of 4 presenters, GIhwan Park, Professor in food science and technology of Chungang University, and Hochang Sin, Professor in communication of Seogang University and discussed in-dept on climate change, future forecasting for food safety, and measure for internal/external communication related to government etc.
