The Fourth KISTEP Future Forum hosted

KISTEP jointly hosted the 4th KISTEP Future Forum with Future THINKNET with a theme of "Future and Science & Technology of United Korea" at COEX on June 13.
This fourth Future Forum was prepared to draw the future for the United Korea on which it shall be the highest turning point in the continuous growth of the nation; and to check the industrial development strategy and the role of S&T for the creation of growth engine.
This event proceeded by the order of a theme presentation by four specialists and a panel debate.
The first speaker, Hanbeum Cho, a senior researcher from KINU (Korea Institute for National Unification) gave a presentation about the social & cultural integration method to resolve the difference of social development and abnormality between South and North Korea progressed under a divided structure with a theme of "Reunification and Social & Cultural Integration".
In succession, Sukki Lee, a team leader for North Korea Industry in KIET (Korea Institute for Industrial Economics & Trade), gave a presentation about the measure to maximize the potential capacity of united Korea centered at the industrial development and Science & Technology.
Sangjung Byun, a senior researcher from INSS (Institute of National Security Strategy), disposed that the analysis showed the research ability and technology level of scientists and technicians in North Korea is 20 to 30 years behind due to the long period of isolation besides the strategic military field such as the nuclear missile; and that the urgent priority is to resolve the domestic & foreign restrictions which North Korea is facing in order to accomplish the development of science & technology and the "Strong Nation in Knowledge & Economy" suggested by Jongun Kim.
The last speaker, Seungkyu Lee, an associate research fellow of KISTEP emphasized that it is necessary to change together rather than to deduce the merit & demerit of united Germany and to demand the one-sided change in the fields of government, universities, research institutes, industry, innovative system operation method; and that the unification policy is needed basing on "Potential" rather than focusing on "Effectiveness".
