KISTEP held the 14th KISTEP Wednesday Forum in the KISTEP international conference room in Yangjae-dong on November 26th on the topic of 'Convergence Leadership for Fostering of Future Scientific and Technological Talent‘ This forum was arranged to review the communication ability and convergence leadership potential future talents should be equipped with in establishing the policy to foster future talents in scientific and technological fields.

The forum started with the topic presentation by Professor Jeehoon Jung of the Mobile Convergence Department of Kyung Hee Cyber University, which was followed by the panel discussion of President Kyuhak Moon of SoftBank Korea and Office Head Yong-sub Yum of the SK Research Institute of the SUPEX Management.
  In his topic presentation titled 'Era of Convergence, and Leadership of Convergence', Professor Jeehoon Jung of Kyung Hee Cyber University said, "Though convergence is sometimes ultimately automatically achieved by desire, a better result is obtained when there is a link called 'leadership'," taking the example of the 'Medici effect'. He explained that convergence is ultimately achieved when the leader tunes up the universal interests by grasping the entire work, which is called 'the leadership of convergence', and proposed that the leader should have ▲ Communication ability, ▲ Insight and ▲ Decision-making ability to demonstrate leadership.
 
Professor Jung also emphasized the importance of insight, saying "The reason why communication ability is important is because the leader should smoothly communicate with people when selecting and executing tactics. Also, while an excellent leader should be equipped with detailed expertise, he/she should be equipped with the comprehensive knowledge of being capable of viewing the whole." He added that a leadership that can 'make decisions' when all these abilities are achieved is the leadership that enables convergence.

In the subsequent panel discussion, President Kyuhak Moon of SoftBank Korea said a game itself is 'Convergence' taking an example of the game. He explained, "In order to make a game, not only the design, story and software are required, but also the psychology of users should be grasped. Something produced by converging all such elements is a game." President Moon also presented an example and said that 'Ali Baba' could succeed with the excellent human resources and convergence ability though it did not have any technology of itself.
 
Office Head Yongsub Yum of the SK Research Institute of SUPEX Management said that ICT at present is blending into many fields and predicted that the change would be further expanded. He said the attitude absolutely required to positively lead such changes is the attitude of 'convergence', and many experts already recognize that. Office Head Yum proposed that, though expertise is also required for success as a convergence talent in the market, converging the sense of values is important above all.
