S&T policy forum on ‘Climate Action After COVID-19’

On June 17th, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and co-organized by Korea Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP), Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST),  Korea Academy of Science and Technology (KAST), National Academy Engineering Korea(NAEK), National Academy of Medicine of Korea (NAMOK), and National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST), S&T policy forum on ‘Climate Action After COVID-19’ was held online.



The forum was organized to collect opinions from the S&T community in order to proactively respond to the Post-COVID era based on S&T. It was broadcast live on YouTube, Kakao TV and Naver TV amid compliance with quarantine standards.



The forum began with a welcoming speech by Sung-Soo Kim, director general of Science, Technology and Innovation Office at the MSIT, a congratulatory speech by Woo Il Lee, president of KOFST, and online congratulatory speeches by Min-koo Han, president of KAST, and Kwangyun Wohn, chairperson of NST. It was followed by two presentations and panel discussions.





Duk-jin Jang, a sociology professor at Seoul National University (SNU), gave his presentation on ‘Massive Social Change in Face of COVID-19.’



The following presentation was presented by Yo-up Lim, director of Science and Technology Policy Division at the MSIT, titled, ‘S&T Policy after COVID-19.’



In the first panel discussion, Kim Hyun-chul, director of the Industrial Technology Policy Center at KIAT, gave a presentation on ‘Post-COVID-19 Era, R&D Innovation and Industrial Response." The discussion was joined by Oh-kyung Kwon, president of the NAEK, Kwang-beom Ko, managing director partner of BCG, Hye-young Kim, senior vice presient of NIA, Hee-soo Kim, president of KT Economic Management Research Institute, and Joon-mo Ahn, professor at Sogang University's Graduate School of Management of Technology.



In the second panel discussion, Sun-hwa Han, director general of Policy Office at NST, gave a presentation on ‘Strengthening the Role of S&T in National Crisis Response and Policy Decision Making Process.’ The panel discussion was joined by Sang-Seon Kim, president of KISTEP, Sung-hoon Kwon, investigator at the National Assembly Research Service (NARS), Sang-wook Park, professor of School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at SNU, Ho-young Lee, director of the Center for AI and Social Policy at KISDI and Joon-yeon Jang, director general of Post-Silicon Semiconductor Institute at KIST.
