An opportunity is provided for KISTEP to share with a developing country the science and technology knowhow of Korea, which is called the exemplary case of a foreign aid recipient turning into a foreign aid provider.
KISTEP, along with ISTIC (International Science, Technology and Innovation, Centre for South-South Cooperation under the auspices of UNESCO) based in Malaysia, is holding The 3rd KISTEP-ISTIC S&T Policy Training Program for High Level Policy Makers at the Hotel Interciti in Daejeon for five days until December 2nd.
The joint education course began in 2009 as ISTIC asked KISTEP for a tailored R&D education & training course for its member countries in the developing world in Asia and Africa to enhance these countries’ capabilities of establishing, planning, evaluating and managing their national science and technology policies.
The inaugural KISTEP-ISTIC joint course was offered in Seoul in November 2009. Last year the course was provided in Egypt, the head of Africa Science and Technology Council as a more comprehensive and sizable training that could cover the whole African continent.
This year’s third annual course will be participated by 22 policy makers in science and technology at the level of directors or above at their offices of 16 countries in Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines), Africa (DR Congo, Nigeria and Morocco) and the Middle East (Oman, Kuwait and Yemen).
The course consists of a variety of programs such as lectures by experts on the application of S&T planning and evaluation system to 5Ts (ICT, NT, ET, BT, GT), each participating country’s presentation of its S&T status, tours of Korea’s industries and R&D facilities and introduction of the traditional Korean culture.
