KISTEP was established based on Article 20 of the Framework Act on Science and Technology

KISTEP contributes to the advancement of S&T in Korea by:

1. Planning and coordination of S&T policies

2. Evaluating and conducting surveys and analysis on government R&D programs

3. Promoting international S&T cooperation

  The 20th Anniversary of KISTEP

- Aug.
  Inauguration of the 9th president of KISTEP, Sang-seon Kim
2017
- Mar.
  Inauguration of the 8th president of KISTEP, Kichul Lim

  Ranked "Excellent" in mission-oriented GRI evaluation
2014
- Feb.
  15th anniversary of the foundation of KISTEP
- Jan.
  KIRD’s affiliation was transferred to KISTEP
2013
- Oct.
  Inauguration of the 7th president of KISTEP, Park Young Ah
- Mar.
  KISTEP’s affiliation was transferred to the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) from NSTC
2011
- Mar.
  - KISTEP assumed full responsibility for supporting NSTC, newly launched as a permanent agency with a strengthened mission
    - KISTEP’s affiliation was transferred to NSTC from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST)
    - KIRD’s affiliation was transferred to the National Research Foundation (NRF) of Korea

- Feb.
  10th anniversary of the foundation of KISTEP
2007
- Nov.
  - Established the Korea Institute of R&D Human Resources Development (KIRD), affiliated with KISTEP
2005
- Feb.
  - Redirected KISTEP’s main functions to strategic planning, coordinating and evaluating national S&T and R&D
2001
- July.
  - Reorganized and expanded the functions of KISTEP. Strengthened its planning function to efficiently carry forward national R&D programs
1999
- Feb.
  - Established KISTEP
1993
- May.
  - Reorganized the CSTP and renamed it STEPI
1987
- Jan.
  - Established the CSTP, an affiliated organization of KIST
