The ‘Stem Cell R&D Fair’, hosted by National Science & Technology Commission and organized by KISTEP was held at Sejong University on May 25, 2012. This fair which was subtitled ‘Open forum for national R&D investment direction to take the leap as a powerful nation of stem cell’ was designed to grasp the research trends on stem cells in Korea and to communicate between government planners and researchers of industry-university-institute.

During the presentations on the subject, Professor Jeon Sang-yong of Asan Medical Center presented the latest research results on the ‘Treatment for tetraplegia patient damaged by chronic spinal cord injury by means of adult stem cell’; Professor Kim Dong-uk of Yonsei University, and Laboratory chief Im Jae-seung of NEX BIO Co., Ltd. presented the national and international trends in the basic and industrial aspects respectively.

Manager Lee Yong-seok of Life Science and Welfare R&D Coordination Division of National Science & Technology Commission had a presentation on the ‘National R&D investment status on stem cells and plans (draft) issued by each ministry which was drawn from the “Stem Cell Council”, and also explained the measures on establishment of the ‘stem cell R&D detailed planning (draft) of all the ministries’ led by National Science & Technology Commission.

In addition, at the exhibition hall which was prepared separately, about 130 posters explaining the stem cell project tasks and excellent results were displayed to share information between researchers.
