NSTC and KISTEP held a forum on the creation of creative basic research environment at Korea Federation of Banks on September 24.

There were three presentations: “The importance of basic researches to enhance technology competitiveness and a model of the industry-academia-research cooperation” by Lee Tae-hoon of Novacell Technology Inc.; “The current status of the government-funded basic researches and proposals for improvement” by Kim Jae-wan of Korea Institute for Advanced Study who is the authority on quantum information science; and “Proposals for the creation of creative basic research environment” by Jang Jin-gyu, director of Science and Technology Policy Bureau of National Science &Technology Commission. 

The panel discussion led by Seo Pan-gil, chairman of Consultation Committee on Basic Research Promotion addressed such issues as the expansion of investment in basic researches, the support of Institute for Basic Science, the corporate support of Institute for basic Science and the improvement of basic research evaluations.
