Representatives from Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST) visited KISTEP

The representatives from Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST) visited KISTEP on September 26th (Thu). The meeting was attended by Kum Dongwha (President, VKIST), Bui The Duy (Deputy Minister, Ministry of Science and Technology), Phung Bao Thach (Chief of International Cooperation, Mistry of Science and Technology), Nguyen Phu Hung (Deputy chief, Mistry of Science and Technology), Sang-seon Kim (President, KISTEP), Kil-Woo Lee (Director general, Office of National R&D Coordination, KISTEP), Sang-Ki Jeong (Director general, Office of National R&D Evaluation and Analysis, KISTEP), Yoon-Been Lee (Director, Center for Data Analytics Innovation), Young-Hyun Jin (Director, Center of Growth Engine R&D Coordination, KISTEP), and Jinha Kim (Head of International Affairs Team, KISTEP), and they discussed national R&D investigation·analysis·evaluation and government R&D budget allocation·coordination.


 

 
 
The representatives of Vietnam mentioned that “Although Vietnam invested a vast effort for private enterprises to be interested in R&D for last 5 years, it was even hard to figure out the current status of R&D activity” and questioned about information collection of R&D activity status of enterprises and supporting policies and systems in Korea. Director Yoon-Been Lee explained that “The government and KISTEP collect information by 「Survey of Research and Development in Korea」 based on the statistics act, and draw attention using policies such as government subsidies.”


 


 
The researchers of KISTEP and the representatives of VKIST discussed ▲tax support policies for R&D, ▲benefits for private research institutes, and ▲survey·analysis·evaluation system of KISTEP based on the framework act on science and technology for invigoration of enterprises’ R&D activity and for accuracy of survey·evaluation. President Sang-seon Kim commented that “In terms of the pace of S&T development of Vietnam, the role of Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam and VKIST will become more important” and asserted that the cooperation between VKIST and KISTEP is necessary.
