Hyun-mee Kim (Minister of MOLIT) visited KISTEP and held a meeting to develop Chungbuk Innovation City

Hyun-mee Kim (Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, MOLIT) visited the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP, President Sang-seon Kim) located in the Chungbuk Innovation City on February 13th (Thu) and held meetings with the governor of local governments and presidents of relocated institutes, the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS), and universities to discuss how to develop Chungbuk Innovation City.

At the meeting, Sijong Lee (Governor of Chungcheongbuk-do) explained the current situation of Chungbuk Innovation City and requested the government's active interest and support to activate the innovation city such as regional industry development and improvement of settlement conditions. In addition, Sang-seon Kim (President of KISTEP) and other presidents of relocated institutes also suggested that the government make efforts to improve the quality of life of migrant workers, and also promised the active cooperation of institutes.

Hyun-mee Kim emphasized that “as the relocation of institutes was completed last year, it is now important to make the innovation city an indisputable regional economic hub”, and continued that “governments, local governments, and relocated institutes need to work together to create a place where businesses, people, and jobs and investment are overflowing”. She also introduces the ‘‘Vision for Regional Economic Hub of Innovation City’, which aims to activate clusters, expand incentives for companies, and build an ecosystem for of Industry-University-Research Institute, and proposed to work closely with the government, Chungcheongbuk-do, Jincheon-gunㆍEumseong-gun, and relocated institutes. In addition, since the innovation city was created based on the relocated institutes, the government promised generous investment while asking efforts for leading development of the relocated institutes and active support from local governments.
