At the breakout session of Key Platform 2020, hosted by MoneyToday, President Sang-Seon Kim of KISTEP emphasized the role of science and technology in the Post-COVID-19 era and the importance of R&D investment.

On May 28th, the breakout session of the Key Platform 2020, themed "Paradigm Shift in the National Science and Open Science," was held at the Conrad Hotel in Youido, Seoul. President Kim remarked, "Activation of mere 1% of the 1 million speices of viruses on our plant can reenact another pandemic." He continued to stress the cooperation to join forces to solve the global crisis is required rather than competition for national competitiveness. He also pointed out that the issues such as international standardization of Korea's diagnosis systems, growth engine of the health and bio sector, digital divide(marginalized group) and infodemics must be dealt with in the Post-COVID-19 era.

Dr. Chang-hyun Park, a research fellow at KISTEP, introduced the results of KISTEP's research, which selected promising technologies in the Post-COVID-19 era. There were 25 promising technologies and 8 major areas that the results highlighted.

The following panel discussion was joined by President Kim of KISTEP, Peter Wijlhuizen, Senior Officer for Innovation, Technology and Science of Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Director Jae-Soo Kim of the Division of National S&T Data of KISTI, and Professor Edquist Charles at Lund University in Sweden (online participation), to share their insights on shift in the paradigm of science and open science after the novel corona virus.

During the congratulatory remarks, Chung Byung-sun, Vice Minister of MSIT, expressed his ambition to position Korea as the first mover of the post COVID-19 era by establishing a research cooperation ecosystem between the public and the private sector.
