The 7th NIS Policy Colloquium

On December 8th, KISTEP held the 7th NIS policy online colloquium, themed ‘Assessment and Implications of National Innovation System(NIS) and R&D Investments’. Since the discussions about R&D efficiency and innovation capability of Korea arise, his colloquium was aimed to observe changes of Korean R&D investments compared to major competitors and to discuss related issues. Since demands of S&T field and governmental R&D budget are increasing recently, President Sang-seon Kim (KISTEP) stressed how important improving performance is.

The 1st presentation was presented by Dr. Ik-cheon Um (KISTEP). His topic was ‘Analysis of National Innovation System’ containing current status and performances of R&D investments, result of efficiency analysis, improvements of NIS.

The topic of 2nd presentation is ‘Economic Volatility and Fiscal Rules of R&D Investments’ by Professor Tae-bong Kim (Ajou University). He explained the statistic analysis of economic volatility of R&D investment, structural model: DSGE model, empirical study and fiscal rules of governmental R&D.

In the following panel discussion, Director General Jang-jae Lee (KISTEP) was the host of discussion, and Director General Jong-hoon Kim (Korea Industrial Technology Association, KOITA), Director Kyeong-ae Ahn (Digital Times), Director Won Joo (Hyundai Research Institute), Professor Joon-kyeong Ha (Hanyang University), and Dr. Seok-won Hwang (Science & Technology Policy Institute, STEPI) participated in the discussion and shared their own opinions.
