[The 132nd Wednesday Forum] The Future Healthcare to Be Changed by Robots

KISTEP held the 132nd KISTEP Wednesday Forum on April 14 (Wednesday) under the theme of "The Future Healthcare to Be Changed by Robots" to diagnose the current status of medical robots and discuss strategies for developing medical robots and the role of the government and the private sector. The Wednesday Forum was broadcasted online without audience due to Covid-19, and can be accessed through the KISTEP YouTube channel.

President of KISTEP, Sang-seon Kim, said in an opening speech, "It is time to discuss ways to cooperate between the government and the private sector for the development of the medical robot market as low birthrates and aging are emerging at a rapid pace."

Kwang-il Ko, CEO of Go Young Technology, introduced trends in the domestic medical robot market and suggested challenges for the digital health industry and medical care.

Led by Soon-cheon Byun, the panel discussion addressed the role of the government and the private sector in developing the medical robot market in Korea with Dong-soo Kwon (professor of mechanical engineering at KAIST), Jae-soon Choi, (director of the Medical Engineering Research Institute at Asan Medical Center), Won-kyung Song (head of the Rehabilitation Robot Intervention Research Group at the National Rehabilitation Center), and Sung-hyun Chung (vice president of CUREXO).

▷ Choi Jae-soon, director of the Institute of Medical Engineering at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, 

   emphasizing the need for R&D to shorten the development cycle of medical robot machines and 

   link them to clinical settings at an early stage

 

▷Won-kyung Song, head of the Rehabilitation Robot Intervention Research Group at the National 

   Rehabilitation Institute, introducing the definition and classification system of rehabilitation robots and 

   emphasizing the importance of identifying the potential of innovative technologies

 

▷Sung-hyun Jung, Vice President of Currexo, urging the government's policies and systems to help 

   companies save money and time for technology commercialization and market expansion

 

KISTEP will distribute the Wednesday Forum Brief, which contains the forum's main contents and policy implications, to policy customers.
