The 5th National Technology Innovation System (NIS) Policy Colloquium: Strategies for Sustainable Science and Technology Innovation Governance

KISTEP and the Korean Association for Public Administration held the 5th NIS Policy Colloquium: Strategies for Sustainable Science and Technology Innovation Governance at Seoul National University's Graduate School of Public Administration on October 26 (Tue). The theme of the Colloquium is strategies to strengthen the overall governance of science and technology innovation towards domestic and international policies, and to restructure and analyze science and technology governance according to changes in the administrative environment. The event was broadcast live online in compliance with quarantine rules.

Soon-ae Park, president of the Korean Association for Public Administration, said in a welcoming speech, "When we think about the future strategies of governance, we cannot leave out science and technology," adding, "We hope that this colloquium will bring about a new starting point."

Sang-seon Kim, president of KISTEP, said in a congratulatory speech, "We need to carefully review the need for science and technology governance and how to supplement and strengthen the multi-ministerial distributed investment in the science and technology budget."

In the first presentation session, Jung-jae Lee, a senior researcher at KISTEP, presented the theme of "Strategies to strengthen the science and technology innovation governance in accordance with domestic and international policies." Senior researcher Lee said, "In a society where science and technology should be centered on digital transformation, technology hegemony, low birth rate, and aging society, it is necessary to strengthen plan and coordination of science and technology innovation policies. Therefore, we should build a general system for science and technology innovation policies and specialize in support organizations for innovation policies."

In a continued session, Sam-yeol Lee, a professor of public administration at Yonsei University, presented "Analyzing the strategies and issues of restructuring science and technology governance in accordance with changes in the administrative environment," and suggested "reasonable allocation and coordination of R&D investment budgets."

During the discussion, Professor Maeng-joo Lee of Gangnam University, Professor Joon-mo Ahn of Korea University, Professor Sang-wook Park of Seoul National University, Senior Researcher Se-joon Lee of STEPI, Reporter Gyeongae Ahn of Digital Times, President Sang-seon Kim of KISTEP, Senior Researcher Jung-jae Lee of KISTEP, and Professor Sam-yeol Lee of Yonsei University participated to discuss how to strengthen the sustainable science and innovation governance with the host of Jeong Kwang Ho, president of Seoul National University Graduate School of Public Administration.
