The 6th National Technology Innovation System (NIS) Policy Colloquium

KISTEP hosted the 6th NIS Policy Colloquium to diagnose the recent US-China technology competition and discuss customized strategic measures to build a Korea-U.S. relationship in science and technology. The event was held at L Tower in Seoul on November 11 (Thursday) under the theme of "Pax Technica Era, Ways to Develop Korea-U.S. Alliance Further in Science and Technology."

In the opening speech, President Kim addressed, "Science and technology cooperation is crucial in our day, and we need to expand amid collaboration in various fields such as multilateral cooperation and temporal and spatial cooperation through the Big Science. Korea's main task is to diversify and promote cooperation with the U.S., an advanced country in science and technology, and as the science and technology alliance was discussed at the recent Korea-U.S. summit, we hope that this Colloquium will serve as a forum to create a cooperative and sustainable cooperation milestones.”

The topic presentations consist of (1) "Policy tasks to build sustainable Korea-U.S. science and technology alliances” by Gye-hoon Do, researcher at KISTEP Innovation Strategy Research Institute, (2) “Cooperation between human networks and institutions through KUSCO” by Hwa-yong Ahn, head of international cooperation division at the National Research Foundation of Korea, (3) “US/Korea-led cooperation in the field of Big Science” by Si-woo Yoon, head of KSTAR Research Division at the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy (4) “Cooperation through the Korean American Scientists and Engineers Association(KSEA)” by Hae-joo Moon, secretary-general of the Korea Federation of Science and Technology, (5) “ASIS hub strategy of global competition” by Chung-min Ryu, head of Infectious Disease Research Center at Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology.

In the following discussion, with the lead of Yoohyeon Moon, a visiting professor at Korea University, Chi-woong Song (Vice President of Korea and Technology Policy Institute), Joon-mo Ahn (Professor of Public Administration at Korea University), Gye-hoon Do (researcher at KISTEP Innovation Strategy Research Institute), Hwa-yong Ahn (head of international cooperation division at the National Research Foundation of Korea), Si-woo Yoon (head of KSTAR Research Division at the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy), and Chung-min Ryu (head of Infectious Disease Research Center at Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology) participated.
