KISTEP participated in Money Today Global Conference "K.E.Y. Platform 2024"

KISTEP participated in the Money Today Global Conference "K.E.Y. PLATFORM 2024" held at Conrad Seoul on April 25 to introduce KISTEP's plan to accelerate the introduction and use of AI and 10 emerging technologies in the era of generative AI.

Dr. Byoung-Ho Son presented on the current status of KISTEP's AI transformation and future tasks under the theme of “AI for everyone, AI for anything, AI everywhere” in a special session on “The Future of AI to Recreate the World.”


Dr. Son said that Korea's R&D investment scale is 112.6 trillion won in 2022, ranking 6th in the world, and its ratio to GDP (5.21%) is 2nd in the world. He emphasized that the application of AI technology is essential for efficient distribution of R&D resources, establishment of STI policies, and rapid and precise analysis and evaluation of R&D programs.


Furthermore, Dr. Son explained that AI and big data technology can be effectively applied in the area of policy formulation through the AI application of KISTEP, which is at the cutting edge of STI policy. The explanation continued on the process of building papers and multilingual materials into a database through an intelligent search and analysis system based on KISTEP's specialized language model, and the process of building an on-premises GPT that operates on the KISTEP internal network using the KULLM model. He expressed his ambition to enhance individual work capabilities and improve quality of life through public AI services specialized in STI policies in the future.

Dr. Chang Hyun Park introduced 10 emerging technologies selected and announced by KISTEP every year. KISTEP selects future issues that will bring major changes to Korea within the next 10 years through domestic and international future foresight and surveys of future foresight experts, and selects emerging technologies related to these issues.


The selected 10 technologies under the theme of “Generative AI” include: ① Large Language Model (LLM) based text generation AI technology, ② Autono.mous image and video generation AI technology, ③ Neural network processing AI chip, ④ Intelligent personalized service AI technology, ⑤ Emotionally embedded voice generation AI technology, ⑥ Cloud-based machine learning platform technology, ⑦ Generative language model  technology for coding assistance, ⑧ Multimodal (image, text, voice) integrated recognition and generation AI technology, ⑨ AI reliability and safety improvement technology, and ⑩ AI open marketplace platform technology


Dr. Park said that the selected 10 emerging technologies will open an era of creativity in which AI creates creative works. To spread generative AI, he comprehensively proposed measures to develop original technology, overhaul laws and systems, train human resources, and build infrastructure.

The panel discussion was chaired by KISTI President Jaesoo Kim and KISTEP Vice President Byoung-Ho Son. In the discussion, Upstage Vice President Hong-jun Choi, SK C&C Ki-soo Cho, and MS Korea Geon-bok Lee participated and shared ideas on changes in the AI era and how companies should respond.
